Giacomo Turra’s Funk-ready Twist on the Bedford

Designed in conjunction with Italian funk and R&B phenom Giacomo Turra, the D’Angelico Giacomo Turra Signature Excel Bedford puts a groove-ready spin on D’Angelico’s idiosyncratic offset formula. A chambered semi-hollow mahogany body with a stylish contoured F-hole starts this 6-string off on a warm and rich-sounding tonal foundation — the perfect complement to the Giacomo Turra Signature Excel Bedford’s sparkling trio of Supro single-coil pickups. And while Giacomo is best known for his frenetic funk stylings, this guitar’s set-through maple neck allows you to solo with the best of them thanks to its impressive sustain-boosting characteristics. Moreover, this guitar’s 14-inch-radius ebony fingerboard, jumbo frets, and Grover 109 Super Rotomatic tuners ensure stage-ready stability and an effortless, high-performance feel in your hands. Crowned with D’Angelico’s regal art-deco aesthetics, the Giacomo Turra Signature Excel Bedford strikes a perfect balance between style, sound, and playability.

Singing Supro single-coil pickups

Giacomo’s signature Bedford sports a trio of Supro pickups, supplying bell-like single-coil clarity in spades. First up, the bridge-position Supro Gold Field pickup utilizes a field coil design inspired by Supro’s classic designs of the vintage era, with a clear, crisp, and biting voice. A one-two punch of Supro T-style single-coil pickups inhabit the neck, complementing the bridge pickup with a slightly warmer and rounder spin on single-coil sonics. What’s more, the 5-way blade switch and RWRP middle pickup unlock all manner of in-between quack — a must-have feature for Giacomo Turra in his adventurous modern funk and R&B pursuits.

Curvy semi-hollowbody combines comfort and resonance

The Giacomo Turra Signature Excel Bedford combines the comfort of a curvy offset body with the one-of-a-kind resonance of a semi-hollow instrument. Thanks to its mahogany body, this Bedford supplies a rich, balanced, and eminently warm-sounding response. Paired with the set-through maple neck and a 14-inch-radius ebony fingerboard, the Deluxe Bedford SH creates an incredible singing sustain that you’re guaranteed to love. You’ll also appreciate this semi-hollowbody’s satin-finished C-shaped neck, and its nearly microscopic neck joint ensures that you'll have no trouble reaching the highest frets.

The D’Angelico legacy

After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D’Angelico opened his shop in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York’s many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D’Angelico and a single apprentice became New York’s foremost stringed-instrument builders, creating over 1,000 treasured archtop guitars until John’s death in 1964. Following his passing, D’Angelico’s legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D’Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company’s New York roots. Today, Sweetwater is delighted to offer this fine line of distinguished instruments. D’Angelico uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and the finest available materials to create playable works of art for today’s guitarist. From a modest shop in Little Italy to the world stage, D’Angelico’s dedication to quality craftsmanship ensures that this brand won’t be going dormant again any time soon.
